The Lord Jesus before his capture, prayed for his disciples. And we can learn things from this prayer in relation to what is happening to us right now.

While he was in the world, Jesus protected his disciples. In fact, not one of them and kept them safe. None of them was lost (except for one who is doomed to destruction, Judas) spiritually speaking and even in physical terms. We can even remember him resurrecting Lazarus.

How in verse 13, Jesus is about to go back to the Father. So what then will happen to the disciples and to the future disciples?

So here is the Lord’s prayer.

1. He wants his disciples to have the full measure of his joy (v.13). I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them

2. They will no longer live like that of the world (v.14) I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.

3. That they will be protected from the evil one (v.15) My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.

4. To be sanctified by the truth (v.17) Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
